Ultrasound 2-2

Today we had the second set of ultrasound pictures taken.  It was a voluntary ultrasound to screen for Downs Syndrome and Trisomy 18(?), both of which are genetic disorders, and both are more of a concern the older the parents are.  The odds are still pretty small (1 in 400-500'ish), but we figured it was worth checking, and it was a sneaky way to get more ultrasound pictures.  It's really kind of strange... To "look" for Downs, they measure a chunk of tissue on the back of the baby's neck.  If it's too thick, it can be an indicator of a problem.  We're talking millimeters here, and they can measure it well enough for it to be meaningful. Craziness.

We haven't heard "officially", but the initial response was that based on the ultrasound photos, things looked just fine.

Here's the one good pic we got from today:

You can see the baby's head on the left, facing the top of the photo, lying on his/her back.  There's a hand right around his/her mouth, and you can see a nose pretty well.  It took a while to take the measurements they wanted, so we were able to see lots of flailing arms and legs, and a good strong heart beat.

Based on today's results, they are not planning on changing the due date.  Today would have put Becky's due date a *few* days further out, but not enough to bother changing it.  So officially we're still looking at January 14, 2011.
